Moscow Planetarium

Welcome back to the Moscow planetarium!

After 17 years of reconstruction, the Moscow planetarium reopens for visitors on Monday June, 13th.

The Moscow planetarium is now said to be the world's largest, expected up to 1.5 million visitors per year.

The planetarium was originally built in 1929, making it the 13th worldwide at that time. The building was closed in 1994 due to safety concerns, leading to an 8 year legal struggle over financial and land issues before work finally started in 2002. Finally in 2008, after the city became the planetarium's sole proprietor, some time was needed to get things back in order.

However, now the planetarium is ready to be opened with no further delays, and up to 1,000 visitors at a time will be able to enjoy the re-opened science-centre.

In addition to the fascinating view of the milky way in the Bolshoi Zvezdny Zal (Great Starry Hall) equipped with a state-of-the-art projector under the largest planetarium dome in Europe, the planetarium also boasts an interactive museum, a 4D-cinema and two cafes.

Visitors will be able to enjoy the views of the cosmos for a price of only 500 rubles ($18).

Check out the new planetarium next time your in Moscow!
