Background
Near Plesheev Lake, only 100 kilometers away from Moscow, is the old city Pereslavl-Zalessky. It was founded in 1152 by duke Yury Dolgoruky. The name of the city can be translated from old Russian as “(the city that) attracted the glory” (pereniavshiy silu). The most well-known duke, who lived in the city and later left for Novgorod, was Alexander Nevsky. But Nevsky was never forgotten by the citizens – to honor him a monument was built in the middle of the red square. After the city was adjoined to Moscow, almost all russian dukes lived there. Today Pereslavl-Zalessky is one of the most beautiful cities of Golden Ring; it attracts tourists with its special atmosphere, the quietness of the narrow streets, the slow flow of the river Trubeg and the boats next to the river houses. You can go boating or fishing, or if you are tired of all of that there are four monasteries to see. You can easily relax here! There is a special monument that is worth visiting. Several kilometers from the city, on the bank of Plesheev lake, lays a huge stone called “the blue stone”. According to legend, those who stand next to it for a while can recover from many diseases.
